The Requirements
Active interstate operating authority
You need an active USDOT number and MC authority in your company's name. New authorities are commonly asked to show a period of operating history before approval.
An acceptable FMCSA safety record
Your SAFER profile has to be clean: no unsatisfactory safety rating, and out-of-service and crash rates within Amazon's published thresholds.
Insurance on file
Auto liability, cargo and workers' compensation at the limits Amazon publishes in its carrier terms, with certificates naming the right entity. These limits change, so read them in the Relay portal rather than relying on a summary.
Qualifying equipment
Programs exist for dry van tractor-trailers and for box trucks, each with their own equipment specification. Check which program your vehicle fits before you apply.
Load tracking
Relay expects visibility on your loads, through the Relay app and, for many carriers, a telematics or ELD connection. An FMCSA-registered ELD that reports reliably is the foundation for that.
Drivers who meet the program rules
Valid CDL where the equipment requires one, a current medical certificate, and enrolment in a drug and alcohol testing program.
