IFTA reporting FAQ

What is IFTA reporting software?

IFTA reporting software calculates the fuel taxes a motor carrier owes each U.S. state and Canadian province based on miles driven and fuel purchased per jurisdiction. It replaces the manual per-truck worksheets carriers used before ELDs.

Do I need separate IFTA software if I already have an ELD?

No — a good ELD includes IFTA. ELD Hub bundles IFTA reporting in the flat $15/truck/month price. Most competitors charge $10–$20/truck extra for an IFTA add-on.

How often do I file IFTA?

Quarterly. Due dates: April 30, July 31, October 31, and January 31. Late filing means penalties ($50 or 10% of tax due, whichever is greater) plus interest — automating the report avoids missed deadlines.

What if I run under 26,001 lbs — do I still need IFTA?

IFTA applies to vehicles over 26,000 lbs GVW OR with 3+ axles, that cross state lines. Owner-operators in a single-axle Sprinter under weight usually don't need IFTA — but if you ever run a heavier truck, sign up before the first interstate trip.

Does ELD Hub file IFTA for me?

ELD Hub generates the pre-filled quarterly report; you (or your accountant) upload it to your base jurisdiction's IFTA portal. Automatic filing requires jurisdiction-specific API access that most states don't yet offer.

What about IFTA in Canada?

ELD Hub supports IFTA for all U.S. and Canadian jurisdictions. Cross-border miles and fuel receipts are handled the same way — the driver app auto-detects the border crossing via GPS.
